MEET | KELLY CORROON
Featured 5.1-5.7.17 | Imagine a world in which travel was still considered to be one of life's greatest joys. Where people got on airplanes wearing smart suits and sweater sets rather than velour sweatsuits and flip-flops. Where carry-on bags were tailored and chic and fit into the overhead compartments without so much as a tap, rather than bags bulging at the seams that require the strength of two or three people to jam it into place. Then meet Kelly Corroon, the woman who is single-handedly trying to make this magical world a reality. She took her first transatlantic trip to Paris at the age of 12, and has been hooked on travel ever since — so much so that she dropped everything and started her own line of luxe luggage and travel accessories to bring civility back to travel. She also loves hand-written notes and remembers almost every event in her life by what she was wearing, so while she's a thoroughly modern woman with a passion for football (Go Green Bay!) and Improv, she may have come from a bygone era. Her selects are a beautiful mix of old and new and are just as elegant as she is. Welcome to Kelly's week.
more about kelly
Kelly Corroon grew up on the East Coast and after graduating from Boston College, worked in public relations for Ralph Lauren in New York. She moved to San Francisco and landed in Marketing at the Gap during the Mickey Drexler hey-days. There she developed a number of well-known ad campaigns, and had the privilege of working with photographers Richard Avedon, Elliott Erwitt, William Wegman and Herb Ritts. She helped open stores for Gap internationally in Tokyo and London, and spearheaded the first launch of gap.com. After a move to the Midwest, Corroon headed up marketing for an internet marketing company in Chicago and ran online marketing for Miller Brewing in Milwaukee. She relocated to London, where she worked as a consultant for Boden and helped launch a children’s charity with Anya Hindmarch, Natalie Massenet and Yasmin LeBon. After 8 years, her husband and three children moved to Hong Kong.
Corroon started her eponymous luxe line of luggage and travel accessories from a long-standing love affair with travel, which she was able to fully indulge while raising her family abroad. She had always been captivated by the bygone age of the elegant vagabond, as well as photos and stories of the generations of women in her own family that travelled widely. The collection aspires to capture the elegance of this lost era, but is fully updated with modern and practical components for today’s more frenzied world.
