MEET | Johanna Braddy
Featured 10.14-10.20.19 | Not one to be pigeon-holed, Johanna Braddy's career path looks a bit like an exercise in dodging stereotypes. You might think of her as a sharpshooting action star from ABC's Quantico (where she and Priyanka Chopra play FBI recruits) or Video Game High School (a web series that earned her something of a cult following). Or maybe you remember her as a Southern deb bachelorette on UnREAL — the Lifetime scripted series that takes a (fictional?) look at what goes on behind the scenes of America's favorite reality show. (Fun fact: Braddy and her husband Freddie Stroma met on set. Yup — she got the final rose.) Yet some of her movie choices have had a scary slant, including roles in horror flicks The Levenger Tapes, Hurt, The Grudge 3, and The Collection. She's also collaborated with award-winning filmmaker Will Bakke in 2014's Believe Me as well as in his upcoming project, The Get Together. And she recently wrapped production on the independent feature Pencil Town, opposite William Mosely. Braddy's dance card has indeed been pretty full since making her theatrical debut at age eight in an Atlanta production of Annie. Back then, she set her sights on becoming an opera singer; her mom is a music teacher and vocalist, so that tracks. But plans changed, as plans do, and her acting career led her to put down roots in Los Angeles. Over the years, she's found ways to give back to her new community: volunteering with organizations like Kitten Rescue and Best Buddies, in what little free time her busy career allows. And given a bit more of that — say, an entire year off — Braddy dreams of going to culinary school. Pro or no, this girl is cooking with fire. Welcome to Johanna's week.
