Whole30: The Whole30 Program changed my life dramatically. The Whole30 is a 30-day challenge in which you eliminate all grains, dairy, soy, refined and added sugar, alcohol, legumes and artificial ingredients. There is no calorie counting or portion obsessing, just a simple list of foods you can and cannot eat. I did my first Whole30 in January of 2014 and my life has never been the same. Sure I lost weight, but there was so much more than that. My brain opened up in a way I’d never experienced before and it helped me get clear on what my passions were and what would really make me happy in life. It taught me how to have a healthy relationship with food, which had been a real challenge for me my whole life. The food we eat is critical to the level of life experience we want to have. I created my business out of a passion for what the Whole30 teaches. All the info is free on their website or you can pick up any of their six books on Amazon. If you’re someone who likes to know the “why” of what you’re doing, definitely check out their first book, It Starts with Food.
Jackie Mulligan: Jackie is a functional nutritionist who has been a total game changer in my life. She focuses not just on what I eat but how I sleep, my stress levels, relationships, mindfulness, rest and so much more. Jackie can work totally remotely and cares so deeply about the work she does. We had our meetings via Skype and she would always follow up with great articles and realistic action plans for making big changes in my life. She also helped me to get my blood testing done to test for food allergies, deficiencies and hormonal problems. She is hands on and an amazing teacher. Anyone can benefit from her work no matter what stage of life they are in.
Classpass: I swear by Classpass. It’s an app that allows you to take classes at a variety of different workout studios in many different cities. For someone like me who travels often and has flexibility in my schedule, it has been such a great tool for staying healthy no matter where I am. And it doesn’t just have workout classes or gym times. I book things like float tanks and infrared sauna sessions through it regularly and it makes it so much more affordable.
MOBOT Mobility Bottle: I love things that have a dual purpose and this water bottle is amazing because it doubles as a foam roller. I'm on the road a lot, and I think foam rolling is the most painful but best thing you can do for your body. This solves the problem of having to carry a bulky roller with you everywhere you go.
Overeaters Anonymous: I’m in recovery from a life of disordered eating and my boyfriend is in recovery from his own substance issues. The 12 step programs have been of great importance not just in our relationship, but in our own personal growth journeys. In my opinion, every single person could really benefit from working a program. It teaches you to communicate your feelings, support others with unconditional love, go inward, and so much more. I love the podcasts from Overeaters Anonymous and attend meetings on occasion too.
Books: I’m a big reader and credit the authors who have taken the time to put their best thoughts on paper as some of my biggest mentors. Some of my favorite books include: A Return to Love by Marianne Williamson, The Firestarter Sessions by Danielle LaPorte, The Four Hour Workweek by Tim Ferris, and It Starts with Food by Melissa Hartwig. Fun Fact: I color code my bookshelves for easy navigation.
Primally Pure: I’m a big fan of the Primally Pure brand who makes non-toxic beauty products from real ingredients. Fun Fact: they source many of their ingredients from the same sustainable farm that we source our chicken from at Model Meals, Primal Pastures. Primally Pure has a variety of products I love like their Beauty Cream and their Dry Shampoo, but my favorite is their natural deodorant that actually works! Who knew!?
