I have the privilege of serving on the board of the Juvenile Arthritis Association, a non-profit dedicated to raising funds for increasing awareness, creating training fellowships for specializing physicians, and providing resources for kids and young adults with pediatric rheumatic diseases. This cause sadly receives minimal attention and funding, despite the fact there are 300,000 children in the U.S. alone suffering from these crippling, life threatening diseases. There is a huge misconception that arthritis in children is just bone aches, when in fact it is often a ravaging auto immune disorder that can lead to horrible conditions such as blindness, organ failure, paralysis or death. I encourage people to learn more and donate or get involved with this organization.
