MEET | OLIVIA ROSE WRIGHT
Featured 5.29-6.4.17 | Fashion is in Olivia Rose Wright's blood. Her grandmother supported her children's education by selling her dresses in the 1950s, and after stints at Prada and Cartier, Olivia felt it was time to conceptualize her own legacy, looking at the causes that mattered to her most and how she could really make a difference. And so she birthed Rallier, her womenswear label inspired by modern uniform dressing and which elevates the notion of social responsibility in fashion, donating a portion of every purchase to Shining Hope for Communities to support the provision of school uniform dresses to girls in Kenya. So basically, Olivia's awesome. As are her selects. Welcome to Olivia's week.
It has been so gratifying to create and communicate an entire visual language around our pieces.
I also have a wall dedicated to Rallier's moodboard. I savor mornings when I get to sit with coffee and focus on the big picture side of the brand creatively.
Rallier is inspired by modern uniform dressing - the pieces explore the tension between uniformity and individuality by mixing the heritage of archetypal dress codes with a feminine spirit of ease. For every piece sold, school uniforms are sourced from regions plagued by gender inequality and given to local schoolgirls. Also, everything is made entirely in New York.
During my trip to Kenya, my brother and I went on a safari with Saruni Mara in the Mara North Conservancy. This is another awe-filled experience that is also rooted in socially responsible practices.
Most of my makeup is from RMS but I also love Credo for discovering new non-toxic options. I found Evolvh shampoo there, which I now use everyday.
I'm in love with custom confections (especially birthday cakes) from Margaret in the City.
I was shocked to learn about the millions of girls around the world who are denied access to education, but didn't know how I could create change with a background in luxury fashion. When I later learned that school uniforms were often the cost barrier to education, I felt strongly that I could create a fashion brand to authentically address this clothing-driven need.
more about olivia
Olivia Rose Wright was inspired by her grandmother, who supported her children’s education by designing dresses and eventually opening her own dress store in San Francisco in the 1950’s. When it came time to conceptualize her own legacy, Olivia looked at a cause that mattered
to her most – education for girls and gender inequality. Through her research, Olivia discovered the troubling reality that the lack of a
school uniform was keeping many girls out of school. To combat this issue, she started the movement and brand Rallier. Utilizing her
experience at luxury labels, such as Prada and Cartier, Olivia conceptualized Rallier to elevate the notion of social responsibility
in fashion by incorporating a giving strategy into the design and overall visual language of the brand.
