Summer is quickly coming to an end (sigh) and there's no better way to savor the last days of sunshine then by PUTTING YOUR PHONE DOWN. I know, I know, it's hard. Believe me — I break out into a cold sweat at the very idea of being separated from my third child — but I also understand how important it is to disconnect. Luckily, there are apps that can help (oh, the irony), and we've rounded up a few of our faves to help us stay present during the days ahead.

Want a cold, hard dose of reality to get you started? RescueTime downloads to your phone or computer and collects data to show you exactly how you're spending your time on the web. Take a look and see where you can redistribute your time and reallocate some hours back to real life.

I don’t know about you, but the mere thought of meditating makes me anxious. Sitting still? What’s that? Enter Headspace, the app that makes meditation manageable for even the biggest cynic. I promise it will help you turn off your brain and turn on your focus.

Another app that helps you meditate, but that's not why I love it. I love it because it offers adult-appropriate bedtime stories for those nights when counting sheep just doesn’t cut it.

For those of us who suffer from a lack of willpower (I swear I'm not judging), Freedom literally frees you from distraction by blocking whatever app you feel might be occupying too much of your time for however long you'd like (or can stand).

If you just can't stand the feeling of your hand without a phone in it, download Pause and turn your device into a mini spa. Glide your finger across the screen to release soothing colors and music which are meant to transform the body into “relax and digest” mode, thereby helping you to de-stress and regain focus.

We love to use social media for good around here. We love to use it for a cause even more. With Forest, Trees for the Future will plant trees in your honor for however long you you can stay focused and off your phone. All you have to do is set the timer within the app and be productive and Forest will take care of the rest.

When you love your phone but need a mental break from social media specifically, turn to Lumosity,  a “brain training program” that’s meant to help improve memory, attention span and problem solving skills. It’s surprisingly fun and takes your mind off of social media for awhile which is always needed.
