If you follow Melissa Orons on Instagram (and if you don't, you should), then you know that she's got a relatively unhealthy obsession with beauty products. Which in my book, makes her a superhero. She's also pretty spectacular in the looks department, so when the temps started dropping and my face starting taking on its pale gray winter hue, I knew I had things to learn from her. What follows are her 7 beauty must-haves to combat the winter blahs, and I promise you that if you choose even one, you're going to have a much more joyous season.

1. Glossier Priming Moisturizer Rich
I’m constantly preaching this moisturizer. Having tried every Glossier product, this is my top recommendation. At $35, it far surpasses other heavy moisturizers I’ve tried that are $100+. A little goes a long way, it smells amazing and it instantly melts right into your skin. Perfect for cold weather months when your face needs extra moisture.

2. F. Miller Skincare Body Oil
After divorcing oils because it felt like they were just sitting on top of my skin, I came across F. Miller Skincare, a Canadian-based brand producing the best oils I’ve yet to try. The products nourish and balance all skin types. My arms and legs get super dry and flakey in the winter, so I’m especially loving the body oil right now (however equally obsessed with the face and hair oils). Not to mention, all products are free of synthetic fragrances and colorings, harmful preservatives, sulphates, paragons, phthalates and are cruelty-free!

Le Labo Lip Balm 2.jpeg

3. Le Labo Lip Balm
I’m a big fan of Le Labo fragrances (shout out Santal 33 and Rose 31). A few months ago, they launched a Body - Hair - Face collection, a plant-based, genderless collection comprised of shower gels, lotions, scrubs, etc. Within the collection lies a precious gem - the Lip Balm. Made with shea butter, olive oil and jojoba seed, it’s a non-sticky super comfy balm that leaves my lips extra moisturized. Plus, it’s cute.

4. Chanel Ombre Premiere Longer Powder Eyeshadows
The only powder shadow I’ll still wear as I’ve mostly converted to creamy jelly shadows (shout out Jillian Dempsey Lid Tints). During cold winter months, I can’t waste my time with too much makeup … I’m too cold. I love using these colors as a smudged out liner and my top and bottom lash line. Just gives your face a little pop of color.

Amika Mask 1.jpeg

5. Amika Nourishing Hair Mask
Earlier this year, I took the plunge and went platinum blonde from my natural medium-dark brunette. After six hours in the salon chair, I was beyond thrilled with the results. Fast forward six months, my hair is begging to move past this phase and get back to the good old days when it wasn’t completely dried out and frizzed like a poodle (the back-to-brunette appointment is next month). In the meantime, this mask has been literally saving my head. It's an extra deep conditioner that gives your hair back its softness, shine and vibrancy. The first time I used it I must’ve stayed in the shower for 30 minutes because I couldn’t stop touching my hair - it felt like silk!

Tan-Luxe 2.jpeg

6. Tan-Luxe
Being very fair-skinned, I have gone to the deep depths of the Earth to find the perfect bronze. Foam self-tanners, tinted moisturizers, cream/powder bronzers, — you name it. I recently started using Tan-Luxe products and they are a much easier approach to staying tan. They also don’t have that strong stinky smell and because it’s a light oil, you don’t have to worry about streaks.

Glossier You 1.jpeg

7. Glossier You
I’m really into fragrance. I have my few that I always go back to, but I’ll always pick up little vial samples to try out. Since Glossier You launched in October, I’ve pretty much been exclusively wearing that. I’m terrible at describing scents, but I think it’s creamy and sparkling, lol. An actual description: base notes include ambrette, ambrox and musk; top notes include iris root and pink pepper.

about melissa

I’m a twenty-something lady girl living in Brooklyn. Every day, I take the M train into Manhattan to my job. I work at an entertainment marketing agency where I specialize in connecting brands to talent, influencer and content opportunities. While a big part of my job is talent procurement, I love ideating with brands about different strategies and campaigns and getting to play more of a creative role. I’ve also started some social media consulting, which is fun for me because I love helping people find and develop their aesthetic and putting it out into the universe. In my spare time, I’m a pretty big homebody. I hang with my cutie boyfriend, catch up on tv and movies and spend a lot of time at my vanity. Beauty products are just fun — I don’t take it too seriously. I read blogs and reviews, I see what my beauty gals are loving, I try it. If I love it, I preach it. If not, I give it to my sister or a friend to try. I just love a collection of pretty bottles and vials. If something doesn’t work for me though, I get rid of it. I need open space for my next purchase!
